RichMix and DocHouse present the Screening of ‘Miners Shot Down’, the story of 34 miners shot dead by police at the end of a six day strike in South Africa in August 2012. This movie documents the story behind those six days and the conspiracy between police, the state and corporate interests in the country’s first post-apartheid massacre.
After the screening Director Rehad Desai will be on stage for a Q&A.
Doors Open at 8.00pm and tickets start at £5.

This Tuesday rush up to Hackney Attic for film Quiz Show. Notorious big-screen big-sound quiz brings you the best (should we say hardest too?) questions from the world of movies. Build up a team (no limits on team size) and head to the Attic from 6.30PM. Tickets are £4pp.

Secret Cinema: Back To the future
Secret location on Hackney Road
Shops from Marty McFly’s home town of Hill Valley, including Roy’s Records and Lou’s Diner, are set to open on Hackney Road this week.
The full Back to the Future events run from 24 July to 31 August in a secret location, giving audiences the chance to explore the side streets and alleyways of Hill Valley which will transport them between 1955, 1985 and 2015.
Find Hill Valley Stores at 59 Hackney Road from 11-30 July, open from 11am-7pm on Thursdays and 11am-10pm Friday to Sunday.

Film: Bam Bam Bam – The Story of Sonzeira + Gilles Peterson Q&A
If the World Cup has given you a thirst for all things Brazilian, then this film screening about DJ Giles Peterson and his recent journey to Rio will be right up your street.
Peterson assembled a cast of Brazilian musicians – collectively named ‘Sonzeira’ – to put together a guide to Brazilian music for the discerning music lover. The record ‘Brasil – Bam Bam Bam’ is a journey through the different flavours of authentic Brazilian music cultures and the film of this journey is described as going beyond the Copacabana cliches.
We talk to David Than from the Four Corners gallery and training centre for photography and film on Roman Road, Bethnal Green.
Uncertain States is a lens based, artist-led project, set up to promote critical visual dialogue. Monthly talks, a quarterly broadsheet and exhibitions enable peers and artists to share and discuss the creative process.

‘Haunted Childhood’ combines combines films, music & ghostly happenings. Happens at Bethnal Green’s Church of St John at 6.30 pm – 11 pm. Film screenings include Broken Night, The Others and The Orphanage that will be accompanied by spooky organ music in the background.

Actor, writer and dircetor Marley Morrison joins us in the studio to tell us about how she created her East London based film production company Hazy Jane with the help of a start up loan and what new film and TV projects are in the pipeline.
