The Russet, Hackney Downs, 4pm, Free/Donations
Once a month the weekly arts and culture radio show ‘EastCast’ leaves the studio and takes over The Russet for a Sunday afternoon of radio shenanigans, live music, poetry, storytelling and more from some of the amazing talent we’ve had on the show over the past year. These performances are carefully woven together with sounds from Pearl Wise’s chest of musical treasure collected from far and wide.
Stop off at the Hackney Downs market on the way, have some delicious food or cake at the Russet restaurant, grab a drink and join us on our radio-phonic island, while we transport you through music and sound for a few hours, before you have to paddle back to the mainland, Monday and the rest of the week.
Sunday’s line up:
– Oh Standfast – London based performance poet & shouter of words, tackling everyday nonsense (the absurd observed)
– Lewis Borthwick – Head honcho of The Davenport Collection brings a DJ set of country and blue grass
– Charlie Law – a new addition to The Davenport Collection performs an eclectic folk acoustic set with a dash of country and pop
(The film tells the story of the first reggae-orientated venue, TheFour Aces Club in Dalston founded by Newton Dunbar in the 60’s. The club showcased new emerging music and hosted acts such as The Clash, Sex Pistols, Bob Dylan, Jimmy Cliff, Ann Peebles and many more.)
