The Hackney Pirates is an enterprising charity that aims to develop the literacy, creativity and real-world skills of young people. Running after school hours but with a very non school feel to it pupils stop being pupils and become pirates. Imaginative and creative projects such as filming a music video and creating a pod cast have strong learning objectives woven in to the fun. Pupils have one to one support from volunteers and the projects are devised and run by qualified teachers.
I went along to meet Camilla Cook (Navigator) find out about their plans for the future.
If you would like to volunteer have a look at their website – http://www.hackneypirates.org/volunteer/
